Timbuk (wordsmith/MC)

Timbuk (a.k.a. Sub-Zero) is more than an MC, more than just a rapper and his rhyme is definitely more than entertainment. Defining Timbuk is like trying to define soul, jazz, or hip-hop for that matter. He gives new meaning to the word elevate, painting incredible word pictures that stimulate the higher self in ways you have never even dreamed.

Dreams are what guide Timbuk through his life. He is a gifted, multi-talented artist with a BFA from Corcoran School of Art (Sculpture/Painting). This writer/producer has written lyrics for other area vocalists, studies martial arts and lectures with the Freestyle Union Edutainment Division. Timbuk is also on the board of the Freestyle Union, a workshop for MCs, and is a respected mic master. Hip hop inspires his art and his life which ain't been easy. Timbuk believes "what doesn't kill me makes me stronger."

Steve Coleman (BMG/Novus recording artist) moved by Timbuk's incredible freestyle ability, saw how his inspiration could be an asset to his music and added him to the Steve Coleman and Metrics recording project called A Tale of 3 Cities. Timbuk is also featured on the latest Steve Coleman and Metrics recording The Way of the Cipher and he makes a guest appearence on the last track of the latest Steve Coleman and Five Elements recording Curves of Life. The last two recordings are available from BMG as part of a three CD box set. Timbuk has toured along with Kokayi, another Freestyle Union head, in over 12 different European countries, playing at internationally respected music festivals and clubs. Performing in New York, Atlanta, DC and California, gives Timbuk the experience of a seasoned entertainer.

Timbuk believes "a good rhyme is never finished, it's just that an MC has chosen to stop here at this point. Hip hop is both complex and simple, but people either tend to categorize it in one of those extremes. Once a person has a grasp of his vocabulary, freestyling comes from within, focusing on what gets rid of the fear - uttering a new word is what people fear most. Hip hop needs the courage to take a new step, to move on to what's next."

See and hear Timbuk and you'll find he represents...represents what's next. Timbuk.
